RAM made its entry into the Australian market back in 2018, and has since risen to prominence thanks to their massive stature, huge towing power and their comfortable interiors that offer far more space than your typical dual cab ute platform. The company’s lineup has grown in Australia, with the 1500 rolling off the company’s Melbourne-based remanufacturing line, which has since made way for a number of special edition 1500 variants like the Laramie, Warlock, TRX and the Express as well as the 2500 and 3500 Laramie variants.

RAM FAQs

RAM’s car and truck lineup is generally considered to be reliable vehicles. According to J.D. Power's 2021 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, RAM ranks fourth among all brands in terms of dependability, which is a measure of problems experienced by vehicle owners over a three-year period. RAM also scored above average in J.D. Power's 2021 Initial Quality Study, which measures problems experienced by new vehicle owners in the first 90 days of ownership.

RAM trucks are generally reliable, but like any vehicle, they can have problems. Some common issues reported by RAM truck owners include electrical problems, transmission problems, suspension problems, engine issues, and brake problems. Having said that, regular maintenance can help prevent many issues before they arise.

RAM currently offers its vehicles with a three-year, unlimited kilometre warranty from the date of purchase. This manufacturer warranty offers protection for any material defects and issues stemming from its production for up to 36 months.

RAM’s trucks on sale in Australia offer the largest towing figures you’ll find on the market, with the entry-level RAM 1500 offering braked towing capacities totalling 4500kg, while the RAM 2500 has its braked towing figures capped at a massive 8000kg, which is the same you’ll find in its largest and most powerful RAM 3500, which offers 8000kg of braked towing power.

RAM’s lineup comes powered by one of three versions of a HEMI V8, which means that fuel economy is not a strong point of the package, though there is also a turbo-diesel for the 2500 and 3500. For those interested, the fuel economy figures of RAM’s truck lineup here in Australia start from 12.L/100km on a combined cycle for the entry-level RAM 1500 Express, with the RAM 2500 Laramie rated at 15L/100km on a combined cycle and the 3500 rated at around 20L/100km.

Ram’s most popular entry-level model, the 1500 Express comes fitted with safety features like cruise control, a rear-view camera a set of rear-mounted, while the Limited and the TRX pick up active safety features like autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warnings, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane keep assistance and a surround-view monitor.
