The Ford Ranger snatched the throne from the Toyota HiLux to take out the honour of Australia’s best-selling car for July, 2023, while the MG ZS took the market by storm with a third-place finish for the month.

In spite of the HiLux slipping to second place, Toyota’s large range of vehicles and affordable prices make it by far the most popular car maker here in Australia, more than doubling its lead over its nearest competitor, Mazda.
Which Types of Cars Sell Best in Australia?
SUVs remained by far the best-selling type of car for the month of July, 2023, amassing a near 60 per cent share of the market, followed by light commercial vehicles (utes) with a near 20 per cent share and traditional passenger cars snatching a near 18 per cent share of the market.

For the month of July, 2023, a total of 6846 electric vehicles were sold here in Australia, while sales of traditional hybrids and plug-in hybrid vehicles also reported significant gains.
This gives battery-electric vehicles a 7.1% share of the market, while conventional hybrids account for a 10% share, both of which are increasing with each month that goes by.

The forecast also shows strong signs for battery-electric vehicles and hybrids being sold here in Australia, with EVs totalling a 7.1% share of the market, while hybrids accounted for around 10% of new car sales in July, 2023.
