Chevrolet FAQs

Chevrolet is a major automotive manufacture that has invested billions into the manufacturing hubs, with the end result being a range of well-produced and good quality cars.

In the latest 2023 J.D. Power Dependability Study, for example, Chevrolet took out the fifth-place spot on the list that listed 32 manufacturers, making it one of the most dependable vehicles on the market, according to the authors of that report.

While Chevrolet vehicles, like any other brand of vehicles on the road, are not immune to issues, Chevrolet’s parent-company, General Motors employs a high level of quality control in the manufacturing process to ensure it is a good quality product.

In the past, Chevrolet was best known for its eye-catching creations like the the Bel Air, Impala, original Corvette Stingray from the ‘60s, the Camaro, Chavelle and the Monte Carlo SS, as well as its exporting of the Australian-built Commodore, where it was rebadged as the Chevrolet SS for the U.S. market.

Without a doubt, though, Chevrolet is best-known for its iconic Corvette performance coupe, which is now in its eighth-generation, with the C8 Corvette hitting the international market in 2019.

While it’s impossible to put a firm number on the average lifespan of a Chevrolet vehicle, you can expect to see it meet the industry average of a vehicle’s lifespan, which sits around the eight-year mark, or around 240,000km.

The average lifespan of a Chevy can, however, increase dramatically if the vehicle is maintained properly, and there is few signs of corrosion on structural parts of the car like the chassis.

While Chevrolet has a number of premium vehicles, in its domestic market of the United States, Chevrolet is not billed as a luxury brand, rather, it’s a brand centered on mass-manufacturing rather than exclusivity.

Having said that, a number of its most prolific vehicles like the Corvette and premium variants of the Silverado, for example, come fitted with a huge number of luxurious features that have high price tags attached.

Chevrolet is not a German, French or Swiss car, it is in fact an American car company that was founded back in 1911, with headquarters in the automotive capital of the US, Detroit, Michigan.

It is one of the largest American manufacturers currently operating, with more than nine-million vehicles produced in 2021 that were exported around the globe.

Chevrolet currently has two cars being sold on the Australian market, with the Silverado pickup truck and C8 Corvette sports coupe headlining Chevrolet’s range here in Australia.

Chevrolet manufactures both vehicles in the United States, where they are imported to Australia and New Zealand by General Motors Specialty Vehicles.

Currently the Silverado LTZ Premium and the Silverado HD LTZ Premium make up GMSV’s pickup truck portfolio here in Australia, which will soon be joined by the 2023 Silverado, while the C8 Corvette Stingray remains the sole performance vehicle on sale.

Chevrolet offers three-years of roadside assistance for Australian buyers, which includes coverage in the event of a flat battery, bogged vehicle, empty fuel tank, lost, stolen or locked keys, natural disasters, breakdowns in remote areas and those in need of towing.

To get in contact with Chevrolet’s roadside assistance network, owners in Australia can call 1800 00 4678, while those in New Zealand can call 0800 4678 00.

Chevrolet packages its vehicles sold here in Australia with a three-year/100,000km warranty program that kicks in from the date of the vehicle’s first registration.

Chrevrolet’s warranty covers the costs of any parts and labour necessary to fix manufacturing issues for the engine, transmission, battery, interior and exterior components, and also covers costs incurred for fixing corrosion.

The company points out that this should not be confused with services and maintenance, which are not covered by the warranty program, which means the replacement of brakes, filters and tyres that deteriorate under normal use are not covered by Chevrolet’s warranty.
