Volvo V60 Cross Country Connectivity & Infotainment Features

Volvo’s V60 Cross Country range features a 9.0-inch infotainment system powered by Google Automotive services which offers connected navigation, Google’s voice assistant and access to Google Play applications.

It also receives access to the Volvo Cars application which offers remote services, vehicle location tracking and access to vehicle diagnostics, vehicle locking or climate control settings.

The V60 Cross Country comes packaged with a premium Harman Kardon sound system as standard, while a Bowers & Wilkins sound system remains an optional extra.

Buyers pick up a five-year subscription to the Google Automotive Services system.

Does the Volvo V60 Cross Country Have Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

With an infotainment system powered by Google Automotive the Volvo V60 Cross Country has been designed to work in a streamlined manner with Android smartphones in particular.

As a result, buyers pick up wireless Android Auto connectivity, while iPhone owners will still be required to connect their phone via a USB cable to access Apple CarPlay while on the move.

Is the Volvo V60 Cross Country Comfortable to Drive?

It certainly is.

The Volvo Cross Country is a wonderful car to drive on everything from a jaunt around town to a long, cross-country (excuse the pun) road trip thanks to its smooth nature and trusty suspension package underneath.

The V60 Cross Country comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid system to help take some stress off the petrol engine while taking off from the line.

The setup produces a combined 183kW of power and 350Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, giving it an eager nature while accelerating.

It’s not a powerhouse, but the V60 Cross Country is remarkably smooth thanks in part to the mild hybrid system and the eight-speed automatic that prove a fabulous combination behind the wheel.

There’s also 1,800kg worth of braked towing capacity on offer.

Around town, the V60 remains easy to drive and user-friendly thanks to the lightweight steering rack and capable suspension package that irons out the majority of small and moderate bumps on the road.

The turning circle isn’t exactly compact, though it's easy to throw the wheel around while making a three-point turn, with great forward and side visibility on offer that adds confidence behind the wheel.

Pick up the pace and the V60 Cross Country remains unphased by rougher country roads, with excellent four-paw grip provided by the all-wheel drive system.

Combined with its lower centre of gravity, the V60 Cross Country provides a far more versatile driving experience than a traditional SUV package and is a no-brainer for driving enthusiasts looking for a practical SUV package.

On a long-distance haul up the highway, the V60 is a faultless package, with Volvo’s sound insulation keeping things remarkably silent inside the cabin.

When the sealed roads stop, the V60 remains confident thanks to some decent ground clearance and the super capable all-wheel drive system, proving you don’t need a high-riding SUV to push on some unsealed roads.

All things considered, the Volvo V60 Cross Country makes for one of the most impressive all-rounders on the market, even when tested on Aussie road conditions.

Is the Volvo V60 Cross Country Fuel Efficient?

The Volvo V60’s mild-hybrid engine offers a great mix of power figures on the road with impressive fuel economy benefits.

On a combined cycle, the Volvo V60 Cross Country consumes 7.4L per 100km, a very healthy efficiency figure considering its weight and the amount of power on tap.

How Much Fuel Does the Volvo V60 Cross Country Use Around Town?

  • Volvo V60 Cross Country City Fuel Consumption: 9.5L per 100km

How Much Fuel Does the Volvo V60 Cross Country Use on the Highway?

  • Volvo V60 Cross Country Highway Fuel Consumption: 6.1L per 100km

Is the Volvo V60 Cross Country Practical and Spacious?

The Volvo V60’s wagon body provides excellent interior space and practical chops that give conventional SUV rivals a serious run for their money.

Better yet, the V60 benefits from Volvo’s attractive interior designs and high-quality materials which make the cabin a wonderful place to sit back and relax.

Up front, the driver and front passenger pick up a healthy amount of headroom, even for taller drivers, and a fully adjustable driving position and steering wheel that can accommodate a wide range of drivers.

The design is simple but effective in a minimalist way that helps to keep things clean.

All the touchpoints pick up a lovely piece of soft upholstery while the mix of leather, timber, piano black, metal and crystal elements keeps things vibrant in the front of the cabin.

In terms of storage options, the V60 Cross Country receives a large, retractable centre console cover that houses a pair of cupholders and ample acreage for smartphones and loose items, as well as a tonne of storage inside the folding armrest and large door bins.

Moving to the rear of the cabin you’ll find a heap of leg and headroom for rear passengers, once again, taking the fight directly to its SUV rivals.

Legroom and headroom in the second row are great, with no real issues with shoulder room if you’ve got some young ones seated three-abreast in the rear.

There is some protrusion from the transmission tunnel, though, which means legroom in the middle seat can be a bit cumbersome, but overall there’s a tonne of space in the back of the V60.

For the parents out there, Volvo’s V60 wagon receives a pair of ISOFIX anchors on each of the outboard seats as well as top tether mounts on the seatbacks.

How Big is the Volvo V60 Cross Country’s Boot?

While it’s designed as a full-sized SUV rival, the V60 Cross Country can’t compete when it comes to boot space, though there’s not a whole lot in it.

With the rear bench standing the V60 Cross County’s boot measures a very decent 529L, enough to swallow up a large school or shopping run with excess real estate for a pram.

Fold the rear seats down and you’ll unlock a total of 1,431L worth of boot space, which is more than enough for a family’s worth of sports gear or a run back from the airport with suitcases in tow.

The V60 Cross Country receives a powered boot lift with a space-saver tyre hiding beneath the boot floor, while a flat floor makes it a simple process while loading and unloading gear without the need to lift over the tail.

Is the Volvo V60 Cross Country Safe?

Volvo is a company synonymous with the word safety and, in this respect, the V60 Cross Country very much upholds that reputation.

With a single variant on offer, the V60 receives the full raft of safety equipment with no hidden surprises when it comes to features reserved for a flagship model.

This means that buyers pick up forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, a ‘Pilot Assist’ semi-autonomous driving system with lane centring, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor with front & rear parking sensors, a hill-descent control system, traffic sign recognition and six airbags.

Does the Volvo V60 Cross Country Have an ANCAP Safety Rating?

The Volvo V60 Cross Country proudly wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating after testing in 2018 saw it score the following marks.

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 96%

  • Child Occupant Protection: 88%

  • Vulnerable Road User Protection: 74%

  • Safety Assist: 77%

Keep in mind that the Volvo V60’s five-star ANCAP safety rating is set to expire in December, 2024.

What Warranty Does the Volvo V60 Cross Country Come With?

Volvo packages the V60 Cross Country with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.

The company also offers three- and five-year prepaid servicing packages that are priced at $1,750 and $3,000, respectively.

Service intervals for the V60 Cross Country stand at 12-months or 15,000-kilometres, whichever elapses first.

Our Verdict: Is the Volvo V60 Cross Country Worth it?

Volvo’s V60 wagon is a wonderful option for buyers looking for an SUV alternative without sacrificing anything in the way of family-friendly practicality.

It’s a dream behind the wheel, with impressive fuel economy figures on offer from Volvo’s mild-hybrid engine tech and the added versatility of an all-wheel drive system that means the V60 will keep up with all its SUV rivals.
