The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a modern-day, battery-electric reincarnation of the iconic VW Kombi van.

It sits as a funky and futuristic van with an electric beating heart, a practical interior layout and a lengthy equipment list hoping to expand VW’s already substantial footprint in the passenger van segment.

It promises to be a fun-loving family favourite thanks to its large platform while adding some much-needed pizzazz to the ever-growing world of battery-electric people movers - but is there enough substance underneath the styling?

Ahead of the ID. Buzz’ arrival here in Australia in the first half of the year, let’s take a look at the price, specifications, features and practicality of VW’s next-generation van and see how it stacks up against its rivals.

What Features & Specs Does the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Have?

Volkswagen’s entry-level ID. Buzz Pro SWB comes riding on a set of black 19-inch alloys and receives IQ.L Light matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, three-zone climate control, power-sliding side doors, cloth upholstery with a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a surround-view monitor with front & rear parking sensors, a powered boot lift, heated front seats and tyre pressure monitoring.

You’ll also pick up VW’s removable centre console, nicknamed the ID. Buzz Box, as well as a digital instrument cluster, steel pedals, velour floor mats, a wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry & start and a set of heated, power-folding mirrors.

Upgrading to the ID. Buzz Pro LWB adds a third row of seats in the back as well as upgraded 19-inch front disc and 13-inch rear drum brakes.

Stepping up to VW’s range-topping ID. Buzz GTX adds your choice of 20 or 21-inch alloys, a bespoke front grille design with unique daytime running lamps, black contrast trim, a panoramic sunroof, a black interior with red contrast stitching, a black headliner and GTX badging throughout.

Connectivity & Infotainment Features

All members of the MY25 Volkswagen ID. Buzz range come packaged with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits proudly atop the dashboard.

It’s a substantial upgrade over previous infotainment systems we’ve seen from Volkswagen that helps to cement the ID. Buzz’ reputation as a super contemporary package.

VW’s 12.9-inch infotainment display is bundled with AM/FM and DAB+ digital radio, VW’s IDA voice assistant and a nine-speaker sound system.

The company offers an optional infotainment package for the ID. Buzz which, is priced at $2,200, and adds a head-up display as well as an upgraded Harman/Kardon sound system.

Does the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Have Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

Potential buyers will be pleased to know that the MY25 VW ID. Buzz range offers wireless smartphone mirroring for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay ecosystems.

With an all-new infotainment system on offer powered by VW’s latest operating system, the ID. Buzz offers hands-free access to your iPhone or Android’s apps, contacts and media with the help of wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

What Powers the Volkswagen ID. Buzz?

The VW ID. Buzz is being introduced to Australian buyers with two engine options.

The entry-level ID. Buzz Pro, in both short and long-wheelbase formats, come powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor that powers the rear wheels via a single speed transmission.

The ID. Buzz Pro’s single electric motor produces 210kW of power and a substantial 560Nm of torque, with the company stating it hits the 100km/h mark in 7.9 seconds.

For buyers looking for a bit more power, the ID. Buzz GTX picks up an additional electric motor at the front axle which offers a significant power bump up to 250kW, with 679Nm of torque on offer.

With its dual-motor layout, the ID. Buzz also benefits from VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system and can hit 100km/h in 6.4 seconds.

VW says that towing capacity figures for the ID. Buzz Pro SWB stands at 1,200kg, dropping to 1,000kg in the Pro LWB, while the ID. Buzz GTX has braked towing capacity power up to 1,600kg.

How Far Can the VW ID. Buzz Drive on a Single Charge?

The entry-level ID. Buzz Pro SWB comes packaged with a 79kWh battery pack, while Pro LWB and GTX variants pick up a larger 86kWh battery pack.

Combined with claimed energy efficiency figures of 20.6kW per 100km, according to WLTP cycle testing, range figures for the ID. Buzz stand at between 402 - 423 - 453km km per charge, depending on the variant.

Range figures for Australian-bound ID. Buzz variants are yet to be finalised but are expected to match what’s on offer in Europe.

Volkswagen says its battery can be DC fast-charged at speeds up to 200kW in the GTX and Pro LWB, dropping to a peak rate of 185kW in the Pro SWB.

This means it can charge from 5 - 80 per cent in a claimed 30 minutes, increasing to just under two hours with the help of a 50kW charger.

Is it Practical and Spacious?

With some seriously practical heritage to uphold, the VW ID. Buzz looks set to bring everything buyers loved about the original Kombi van well into the 21st century.

The ID. Buzz’ footprint is large, measuring just under 5 meters in long-wheelbase variants, though the move to retain a smaller wheelbase option adds some variety for buyers looking for something easier to pilot around town.

Step inside and the ID. Buzz’ cabin is clean, charismatic and mighty practical, with Volkswagen keen to show that it remains one of the best in the van segment.

There’s a unique, multi-coloured dashboard that comes topped by a large infotainment system but otherwise remains uncrowded, with a large gap between the dash and centre console that adds to the sense of space.

With a tall roofline, the ID. Buzz also makes for a great option for tall drivers and front passengers while offering up tonnes of visibility.

In terms of storage, there’s a removable centre console that houses an array of storage spots, two tiers of storage inside the door sills, a glovebox and an additional tier of storage in front of the passenger’s seat.

Short wheelbase versions come with a two-row, five-seat layout that offers generous legroom acreage and excellent headroom and visibility, with easy access into the cabin via the powered, sliding doors.

Amenities in the rear include a set of roof-mounted air vents, USB-C charging ports, tables that pop up from the first-row seatbacks, two tiers of storage inside the door sills and both ISOFIX anchors and top tether mounts for child seats.

Upgrading to the ID. Buzz Long Wheelbase range adds a bench seat in the third row that brings your seating capacity to seven in total, with a spacious layout making it a great place for kids.

How Big is the VW ID. Buzz’ Boot?

Boot space figures in the ID. Buzz range from impressive in the three-row, seven-seat LWB format to outstanding in the most capacious two-row, five-seat layout.

With the rear seats standing, the five-seater ID. Buzz has a boot measuring a mammoth 1,121L which expands to a maximum 2,205L with the rear seats folded down.

For the seven-seater, LWB version of the ID. Buzz, you’ve got 306L of boot space with all the seats standing, which expands to 1,340L with the third row folded and to a maximum of 2,469L in total.

Is it Safe?

As a latest-generation product, Volkswagen is packaging the ID. Buzz range with a long, long list of active safety gear to help entice buyers.

The list includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, as well as oncoming vehicle braking and swerve support, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Buyers also pick up lane-keep assistance with lane centring, safe exit warnings, a surround-view monitor with front & rear parking sensors and curtain airbags throughout the cabin.

Does the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Have an ANCAP Safety Rating?

The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is yet to undergo ANCAP safety testing and remains unrated.

For reference, though, ANCAP’s European-equivalent, Euro NCAP, has awarded the ID. Buzz a five-star rating after it scored the following marks in 2022 testing.

What Warranty Does the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Come With?

Volkswagen is set to introduce the ID. Buzz range to Australian buyers with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty.

The company also offers an eight-year warranty for the high-voltage components and battery packs.

VW is yet to confirm pricing for its pre-paid servicing plans, while it’s expected that service intervals for the ID. Buzz range will sit at 12 months or 15,000-kilometres.
