With no shortage of options in the midsize SUV segment, the Peugeot 3008 stands out from the crowd with its French flair and typically charismatic styling.

Designed for midsize SUV buyers who are fans of doing things differently, the Peugeot 3008 range is offered in four variants here in Australia, including a hugely powerful plug-in hybrid at the top of the pile.

With some fierce competition, though, the question remains whether the Peugeot 3008 offers enough substance underneath all that styling to win over potential buyers.

Let’s take a closer look to find out how the Peugeot 3008 stacks up as a practical, premium and family-friendly SUV package in 2024.

What Features & Specs Does the Peugeot 3008 Have?

Peugeot’s entry-level 3008 Allure range comes riding on a set of 18-inch alloys and receives LED headlights, fog lights and running lamps, a mix of leather and cloth upholstery, keyless entry & start, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a powered boot lift, ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone charging, a surround-view monitor with front & rear parking sensors and a semi-autonomous parking assistant.

Stepping up to the 3008 GT range adds adaptive LED headlights, upgraded 18-inch alloys, a mix of leather and Alcantara upholstery, a black roof, mirrors and headliner, as well as an upgraded dashboard and door sills.

The 3008 GT Sport and GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD receives 19-inch alloys, Nappa leather upholstery with heated front seats, eight-way power-adjustable and massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wood dashboard and door finishes as well as a black front grille and door finish and upgraded Focal sound system.

Peugeot 3008 Connectivity & Infotainment Features

All members of the MY24 Peugeot 3008 range come packaged with the same 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display sitting atop the dashboard.

The 10-inch unit is packaged with DAB+ digital radio and satellite navigation, while upgrading to the range-topping 3008 GT adds a ten-speaker sound system from Focal pushing out no less than 515 watts of power.

Does the Peugeot 3008 Have Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

The Peugeot 3008 requires you to connect your Android or iOS device to the infotainment system via a USB cable in order to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the move.

For now, the 3008 range misses out on wireless smartphone mirroring, which means you’ll need to BYO USB cable in order to use Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto behind the wheel.

Is the Peugeot 3008 Comfortable to Drive?

Peugeot is no stranger to making a comfortable and capable city car - with the latest 3008 range standing as proof of its expertise in practice.

It’s important to note that Peugeot offers three engines underneath the bonnet of the 3008 range, including a range-topping plug-in hybrid that offers a mix of all-wheel drive traction and the fuel savings of a PHEV powertrain.

The entry-level Peugeot 3008 picks up a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit that pushes out 121kW of power and 240Nm of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic.

Stepping up to the 3008 GT or GT Sport increases power up to the 133kW/250Nm mark, giving it some more pep off the line.

Sitting at the top of the 3008 range is the GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD, which has a pair of electric motors working alongside the petrol unit that produces a combined 222kW of power and 520Nm of torque.

That’s quite the power bump over the base model and, with the help of two electric motors, acceleration is immediate and hugely impressive, hitting the 100km/h mark in 5.9 seconds.

Specific to the PHEV lineup, the handover between electric and petrol power has been done beautifully, with the 3008 switching seamlessly between the two in a particularly refined manner.

Around town, the Peugeot 3008 range is impressively refined, as we’ve come to expect from the company, making light work of a daily drive and stop-start traffic.

Acceleration up to speed is smooth, while the feedback offers a healthy mix of feedback at speed while remaining lightweight and easy to throw around while in the confines of a tight carpark.

The suspension package errs on the firmer side, which is typical of a European creation, though not unreasonably so that’s uncomfortable on a run around town.

Handling is best experienced behind the wheel of the mid-range variants that aren’t tasked with lugging around the added weight of two electric motors and a chunky battery, though the PHEV tries its best.

On a country road, the 3008 feels a little overwhelmed by large bumps and rougher surfaces, though dial everything back on a long stretch of highway and the package becomes a mighty impressive long-distance hauler.

Is the Peugeot 3008 Fuel Efficient?

Fuel economy figures on offer in the Peugeot 3008 range are pretty healthy for the midsize SUV segment.

Ironically, opting for the more powerful engine powering the 3008 GT & GT Sport actually drops fuel use considerably over the base model.

As you might imagine, opting for Peugeot’s 3008 PHEV has a huge impact on fuel economy figures, though these do require the battery to be fully-charged in order to get the full benefits - otherwise the petrol unit will be working away to keep you cruising along.

  • 3008 Allure: 7.3L per 100km

  • 3008 GT: 5.6L per 100km

  • 3008 GT Sport: 5.6L per 100km
3008 GT Sport PHEV AWD: 1.6L per 100km

How Far Can the Peugeot 3008 PHEV Drive on Electric Power?

Peugeot equips the 3008 GT plug-in hybrid AWD with a fairly substantial 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The company says this is enough to offer 59km of pure electric range, under the strict WLTP test cycle.

Is the Peugeot 3008 Practical and Spacious?

Step inside the 3008 and it’s clear to see Peugeot is still a fan of doing things differently.

The unique cockpit layout is a mix of angles, curves and sleek design touches that make it a particularly charismatic place to sit back.

The driver’s seat receives a decent amount of adjustment, while the pint-sized steering wheel gives you a clear view of the digital instrument cluster and healthy forward visibility.

While things appear to be quite busy on a first inspection, once you’re acquainted, the 3008’s cabin is reasonably ergonomic, easy to understand and looks fabulous at night with the help of some ambient lighting.

The driving position gives you a reasonable amount of height over your surroundings, though headroom is somewhat impacted by models fitted with the panoramic sunroof.

Storage options in the front of the 3008’s cabin include two small storage nooks beside and behind the squared-off gear lever, added storage inside the folding armrest and glove box, as well as a set of large door bins.

Move to the rear of the cabin and things are considerably more cramped.

When compared directly to the heaviest hitters in the midsize SUV segment, the Peugeot 3008 falls short in terms of rear legroom and headroom for those variants with the panoramic sunroof.

The biggest problem is the attractive, sloping roofline design comes with quite the penalty in terms of rear headroom and means that tall rear passengers may feel a little more cocooned than you’d like.

That said, there are plenty of amenities in the back of the 3008, with a folding armrest with cup holders, air vents, USB ports, as well as three ISOFIX anchors and two top tether mounts on the seatback.

All things considered, the Peugeot 3008 prioritises the driving experience in the front of the cabin and makes for a less-than-ideal option if you’re looking to accommodate growing teenagers in the rear.

How Big is the Peugeot 3008’s Boot?

The Peugeot 3008 offers a healthy amount of boot space, with 529L of real estate on offer with the rear seats standing.

Fold down the rear seats and you’ll unlock a total of 1,608L of cargo space, meaning there’s a lot to like about the Peugeot 3008’s boot.

Is the Peugeot 3008 Safe?

The Peugeot 3008 comes with a lengthy list of safety equipment as standard.

The list includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alerts, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor with front & rear parking sensors, as well as a semi-autonomous parking assistant and curtain airbags.

Does the Peugeot 3008 Have an ANCAP Safety Rating?

The Peugeot 3008’s previous five-star ANCAP safety rating has expired, which means the MY24 3008 range remains unrated by ANCAP.

For reference, the previous 3008 range scored a five-star safety rating after scoring the following marks in 2016 testing.

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 86%

  • Child Occupant Protection: 85%

  • Pedestrian Protection: 67%

  • Safety Assist: 58%

What Warranty Does the Peugeot 3008 Come With?

Peugeot offers the 3008 range with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.

The company also offers five years of roadside assistance bundled in from the time of purchase, as well as five capped-price services.

Service intervals stand at a particularly lengthy 12-months or 20,000-kilometres, whichever elapses first.

Our Verdict: Is the Peugeot 3008 Worth it?

While it’s not the most practical member of the midsize SUV segment, the Peugeot 3008 is without a doubt one of the most unique and charming.

With a sleek interior design, jam-packed equipment lists and the option of a fuel-efficient and hugely powerful plug-in hybrid range-topper, there’s a lot to like about the 3008 range, so long as family-friendly practicality isn’t a top priority.
