Overview
BYD is hoping to expand its footprint here in Australia with a new vehicle competing in a completely new segment of the market - the world of dual-cab utes. BYD’s Shark 6 goes head-to-head with the biggest names in the segment with an innovative plug-in hybrid electric motor that pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a pair of electric motors that pushes out 321kW of power and 650Nm of torque to all four wheels via an electronic all-wheel drive system. Complete with a 29.58kWh battery pack, the BYD Shark 6 can drive up to 100km on electric power alone, with the company claiming fuel economy figures of just 2.0L/100km on a combined cycle. With a braked towing capacity of 2,500kg and payload figures of 800kg, the BYD is a futuristic and capable workhorse that looks set to become the new benchmark for the PHEV dual-cab ute segment.
