The BMW i5 is the company’s battery-electric take on the almighty 5 Series designed to show that its premium and practical executive sedan works even better with the help of a smooth, silent electric powertrain. The i5 receives all the hallmarks of BMW’s class-leading luxury sedan, with its spacious platform, sporty handling and extremely smooth on-road manners while packaging a new, electric beating heart that makes it even more versatile.

Overview
Moving toward a battery-electric future is no easy feat, which is why BMW is using its icons to stir up a response from buyers. It’s a smart move, considering the 5 Series is universally loved, or at least appreciated, as one of the leading executive sedans on the market that rewards both the driver and welcomes those seated in the rear with a spacious, comfortable cabin. BMW offers the i5 with a single-motor eDrive40 variant at the base of the range, as well as the performance-focussed i50 M60 xDrive that pushes out 442kW and 820Nm of torque from its dual-motor, all-wheel drive system, allowing it to sprint to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Driving range figures stretch from 516km - 582km from the i5’s 84kWh battery pack that can be fast-charged at speeds up to 205kW, offering a 10 - 80 per cent charge in close to 30 minutes.
